do you ever remind yourself that first impressions aren't always right? in fact, sometimes they can be dead wrong? no matter how many times i figure this out, i always forget.
let's take, the office. flash back to college station days, when greys anatomy was still good and life was...slower. thursday nights meant tv parties at our house, it started a small group and sometimes grew to be 20 people. well, a few guy friends insisted they couldn't come because they watched the office, so we finally agreed to watch it first, then play greys on vhs. (is it strange that i went to college before everyone and their mom had dvr? maybe this means i'm finally getting older...)
anyways, the office. i hated it. i vividly remember sitting on our kitchen counter, bored to death, thinking it was a dumb show, dangling my feet off the counter and biting my tongue. and now, i'm obsessed. in fact, i've memorized segments and often write quotes on the envelopes of letters to my friends. sure, you can reread that sentence, and yes, i'm just that strange.
flashfoward to real life. it's busy. i rarely watch this show with my full attention. this week, i did. michael is proposing. proposing. proposing!! best part? a weirdo found his match. i'm hoping that happens to me someday.
other best part? he called to ask her dad. he's in his 40s and he's not from the south. wouldn't occur to most people to still talk to dad and ask for her hand. but michael did. michael, awkard, silly, socially inappropriate michael called some old dude and said "i'm in love with your daughter and i need to talk to you. call me back."
i mean, at this point, my dad doesn't need to keep the phone handy. but someday, oh someday, he better put my mom on speakerphone with him and some dude better be asking for my hand in marriage. and if he asks in some sort of weird accent, that'd be better.
thanks for the memories, office. and making me feel better about myself that there are in fact, people out there more awkward than myself.
