its a good read about how the battle of rick perry and kay bailey hutchison will decide the face of of the GOP party - will we vote for the far right, more conservative perry? or will texans find common ground with more middle-minded KBH?
Kay Bailey supports stem cell research and limited access to abortion - something not a lot of republicans typically back. but she is also for a smaller government, limited taxes, and less spending, compared to rick.
Though a fiesty primary will get Texas Republicans interested in state politics again, KBH's resignation isn't necessary good news for national republicans. when/if she resigns in the fall, there will be a special 2010 election to fill her seat. Democratic Houston mayor Bill White has already rasied $2 million to campaign for that seat. Though he is a pretty good guy and his policies have worked for Houston- it will mean yet another peroson voting with the Democratic caucus on the Hill if he wins. Which is just what we need, really.
