"into marvelous light i'm running...
by the cross you are the way, the truth, the life.

lift my hands and spin around, see the light that i have found
oh the marvelous light, the marvelous light!"

it was real, colorado

within twenty minutes of waking up yesterday (jan. 2), i was loading suitcases into a rental car, snow piling onto my hair and covering my boots. we packed that Jeep full of estrogen, (7 women), left the heavy bags with the boys (for them to tote home on their 18-hour-drive back to texas with four dogs), and slowly descended down the mountain, bound for colorado springs.

tonight i find myself eight hours away from returning to work teaching three-year-olds, alone in my bedroom in a quiet apartment. my family's trip to colorado was a fast week, glorious and fun and beautiful and sad and hilarious and renewing and full of celebrations - celebrating both amazing lives already lived and good times yet to be had.

through all of the skiing, dancing, games, and movie quoting, i learned a lot this week. for instance, my brother feels passionately that henry wadsworth longsfellow is not paid enough attention in today's english or history classrooms. (seriously, do not mention it around him ever again.) my dad cannot sit still for four minutes without desperately missing his best friend jay. when mary chenoweth laughs, i feel that all is right in the world - especially if she's laughing at me. "stop courtney, or i will wet my pants."
i learned that i must live in the same city as renza sharpe someday. the past seven years of long distance is utterly ridiculous. i learned my mom doesn't think she's funny - yet she is hiliarious and responsible for most of my smiles (tubing reservations, meal planning...her facial expressions...) john and gentry together means that absolutely nothing good could be happening. i worry that they may never find -or stop singing about finding- their best friend doug. (dougie doug dougggg)

william chenoweth is one of the nicest, sincerest people i will ever know... and his "can i have your number" moments are almost as funny as sarah palin. almost. my brother's friend ("friend") amy is truly blonde -"i don't get it"- and i think i love her as my friend just as much as gentry does. caroline is... the definition of the song "sweet caroline." she is very sweet to put up with a week of robinson-ness.

and courtney trackwell, well...i don't know quite what to say about that girl. she told a golf-cart driver in an airport to run me over... she gets annoyed with my accents...she hates when i pretend i'm losing control of my skis and try to knock her over. but she's quite funny. and she puts up with john. and she tolerates me. so...i guess we'll keep her.

i added the boss family to my prayer list this week. i hope they eventually recover from a week full of my obnoxiously loud mouth, dancing on tables, and our group's general rambunctioness. they are certainly courageous to finish out a week of skiing and games with us, and i'm sure their 2010 can only go uphill from here. :)
i missed jay. he would have had such a blast and brought such joy to the trip. but i heard him laughing from heaven, and -though i can't speak for everyone - i was more hopeful this year than last. i realize as each day passes that i truly believe God's promise - we will all spend eternity in heaven. and each time the sun sets, we get closer to that eternity, to seeing homie, to walking with God...

the mountains and the snow and the beauty all reminded me of God. but the fellowship with people who make you laugh like no one else... reminded me of Him even more than the majestic beauty all around us. what a wonderful week. it was real, colorado. thanks for the memories.

and because its stuck in my head, our theme song should be stuck in yours too... meet me halfway, black eyed peas.

  1. one day when we are old and grey, I would very much like for us to better coordinate our trips to Colorado so as to be closer so I can also get annoyed with your accent. That is all.
